Rebellion in Rose
A leap into colour, and the self beneath it.
I chose cargoes and crops,
In a world where I could reinvent
And be anything I wanted
Yet this is all I wanted to wear.
I dyed my hair pink
Maybe a whimsical fantasy
Maybe I just want to see what its like
To test the boundaries.
I have black hair you see
Its resistant to a lot
Requires a real leap of faith
Because there is no going back.
All or nothing is the approach
A gamble, an uncalculated risk
If it goes wrong it could go
Very bad indeed.
Yet in throwing caution to the wind
The vibrant pink locks unearth a key
Shimmering pink and peach hues
My reflection matching what existed beneath.
To be effortless,
To feel empowered,
To feel magnetic.
Maybe this is a delayed rebellion
Looming for decades in silence
Now I am open, tattoos blazing
Fully embracing my skin.
